Marina McCarthy© Glen Rock Police Department Marina McCarthy A New Jersey traffic stop for a minor violation ended badly for a pregnant Pennsylvania woman who was caught on police cruiser camera stuffing nearly 100 bags of heroin down her pants and into her body cavity, police said.
Marina McCarthy, 22, was a passenger in the car stopped Friday in Glen Rock because its registration wasn’t visible when authorities began to suspect there were drugs in the car, North Jersey News reported. The driver, 27-year-old Dakota Dunning, had fresh track marks and an active arrest warrant out of Oxford Township. The car was neither registered nor insured, police said. And McCarthy, too, was wanted on a warrant out of Sparta, cops told the newspaper.
McCarthy, six months pregnant, was handcuffed in front of her body to keep her comfortable during the ride to the station, the outlet reported. But she betrayed the officer’s trust by pulling out baggies of heroin and stuffing them in her body cavity, cops said.
They discovered the drug hideaway after reviewing the cruiser’s surveillance video, according to the outlet. A female officer came to watch as McCarthy removed a total of 89 bags of heroin from her body, cops said.
A K-9 also detected drugs inside the car, the outlet reported.
McCarthy paid off her outstanding warrant of $1,000 and was released on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and is due in court March 17. Dunning, too, was given driving tickets and released with a court appearance scheduled for the same day.
