Iowa Woman Gives Birth to Rare ‘Mono Mono’ Twins, and Didn’t Even Know She Was Pregnant!

Last week, a woman from Ankeny, Iowa got the shock of a lifetime when she went to the hospital with stomach pains, and walked out as the mother of not one, but two twin babies of the rarest kind.
Shelby Mangani had zero suspicions that she was expecting when she suddenly fell ill with sharp pains to her side. After an ultrasound, doctors told her that she was 34 weeks pregnant with baby girls who turned out to be monoamniotic twins, meaning that they share a placenta and an amniotic sack. This potentially fatal condition affects less that 1 percent of all twins, and with just a 50 percent survival rate, the birth of these little ladies was a rare and true miracle.
“It’s pretty nuts, still sinking in,” said proud dad James Crosky of his daughters Ava and Anna who were delivered via C-section weighing at 4 pounds and 3 pounds, respectively.
The babies will spend the next couple of weeks in the NICU, while their parents run around getting their baby items and nursery in order for their arrival. Despite this frantic time, the couple could not be more thrilled to be bringing home their miracle babies.
“I love them,” said Crosky. “I love them more than anything.”
Aw! Congratulations!
