Police Arrest 3-Man Gang In Imo State, Recover Victim's Body

A 3–man gang of suspected kidnappers has been arrested by a team of police officers in Imo state.

The gang who allegedly abducted, murdered and buried a 63 year- old-woman, Mrs Ogor Omereji.
Leadership reports that they murdered the victim after collecting ransom of N500,000 from the family members.
Investigations reveal that the abductors were the nephews of the deceased.
Police spokesperson for the state, Taiwo Lakanu, at a briefing with journalists, said the suspects had committed the crime on Saturday, September 26, when the late Omereji had gone to her in the village.
He added that she probably may have been abducted because her children were rich.
Lakanu, disclosed that the report had been made to the command which led to the investigation to be carried, leading to their arrests. He mentioned the names of the suspects as Gift Emeka, 26, Sunday Uchenna, 27 and Emeka Chinedu, 27.
The suspects had showed the police, soldiers, medical personnel and others the shallow grave of the victim.
The body of the deceased was exhumed in a forest in Awara, Ohaji/Egbema local council of the state,
It will be recalled that the Imo state police command, in its bid to stamp out criminality in the state, has launched “Operation Nkpochapu” meaning ‘operation wipe out criminals’.
Lakanu, the commissioner of police, made the official disclosure of this operation at the council headquarters of traditional rulers in Owerri, the Imo state capital.
According to him, under Operation Nkpochapu, the state has been crime-mapped and all red and black spots have been identified and put under serious observation.
He noted that other covert strategies had also been put in place to checkmate criminals in the state.
